Season 1 is the first season of HBO's series Lovecraft Country. It premiered on HBO on August 16, 2020[1] and ran for ten consecutive episodes.

On July 2, 2021, HBO announced that the series would not be returning for a second season.[2]

Synopsis[]

Lovecraft Country follows the trio on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of Freeman's missing father. The journey begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from an H.P. Lovecraft paperback.

As they journey across the Midwest, Tic, Leti, and George encounter dangers lurking at every turn, especially after sundown.

Inexplicably recovered from their terrifying night, Leti and George luxuriate in their new surroundings, while Atticus grows suspicious of their Ardham Lodge hosts – Christina Braithwhite and her elusive father Samuel – who unveil cryptic plans for Atticus’ role in their upcoming “Sons of Adam” ceremony. Later, after Tic, Leti, and George stumble upon a clue that could lead them to Montrose, each takes an unwelcome walk down memory lane.

Back in Chicago, a handsome stranger nurses Ruby’s disappointment over a squandered job opportunity.

  • HBO Has set the premiere of its drama series Lovecraft Country for 9 p.m. Sunday, August 16.[11]
  • Peele will be executive produce along with Misha Green, J.J. Abramsand Ben Stephenson.[12]
    • The pilot will be written by Misha Green and she also serves as showrunner.[12]
    • David Knoller will also executive produce.[13] He executive producer on Episode 1.[11]
    • Yann Demangeis set to direct and executive produce the first episode.[14]
    • Daniel Sackheim will also executive produce and direct.[8] He directed Episodes 2 and 3.[11]
    • Bill Carraro will also executive produce.[10]
  • Lovecraft Country is produced by Bad Robot Productions and Monkeypaw Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.[13]

    • The series will be based in Atlanta but that it will shoot throughout the Peach State.[15]
    • Abbey Lee replaced Elizabeth Debicki, who was originally cast in the role.[8]
  • Per HBO, the “Lovecraft Country” debut tallied 1.4 million total viewers across all platforms including HBO Max.[16]
    • “Lovecraft Country” premiered to 760,000 total viewers in its 9 p.m. linear slot on the premium cabler.[16]
    • On HBO Max it was the number 1 most watched show on Sunday night.[16]
    • Looking at digital only, the “Lovecraft” debut delivered the second largest total for an HBO premiere since “Watchmen” and the “Chernobyl” premiere back in spring 2019.[16]
  • Misha Green had a specific vision in mind for the creatues/beasts and turned to Oscar-award winning creative studio Framestore as a creative partner in reimagining these monsters.[17]
