Hiram Epstein was a minor character in Lovecraft Country. He is portrayed by Miles Doleac.

He was an astrophysicist at the University of Chicago and former owner of the Winthrop House.

History

Biography

Hiram worked at the University of Chicago until he was fired for human experimentation. He worked along with Captain Lancaster, who supplied him with test subjects from the South Side. Prior to his death, Hiram was one of Horatio Winthrop's followers, one of the founding members of the Sons of Adam Lodge. Hiram built an elevator in his home which lowered into an underground tunnel that led towards Titus Braithwhite's vault, where he kept his deciphered pages from the Book of Names.

Throughout the Series

Season 1

Following his death, Hiram became trapped in his home as a ghost. His house is later purchased by Leti, who along with Tic, hired a priestess to sage the house. Hiram first attacks the priestess. He throws her against the ceiling and possesses her. He then turns his attention towards Tic. As he chokes Tic against the wall, Leti calls out to the eight ghosts: Betsey, Phillip, Lucy, Jasper, Anarcha, Rufus, Grover, and Oliver. Hiram takes over Tic's body and demands that Leti get out of his house. Leti pleads with the ghosts to help her. They appear and the nine of them; the eight ghosts plus Leti, join hands and banish Epstein.[1]

Personality

In life, Hiram was cruel and heartless, and above all, consumed by his work. He was fired from the University of Chicago for unethical experimental practices on people, specifically black men and women from the South Side.

Hiram was an older white man with short brown hair and blue eyes.
